Sky’s World is a fully facilitated, story‑led workshop built around the narrative of Sky’s Rainy Day Surprise. The programme uses the story itself as the delivery mechanism for literacy, oral language, mathematics, visual arts, participation, contribution, and collective creation.
Learners meet Sky through a live read‑aloud and follow her journey of curiosity, creativity, noticing, wonder, and perseverance. Through guided discussion and oral language exploration, tamariki notice what Sky discovers throughout her rainy day adventure.
As the story concludes, learners discover that Sky has lost her dress. A large poster of Sky wearing a blank dress is revealed, creating an immediate transition from story into action.
Learners are invited to help complete Sky’s new MeWe Power Dress using fabric pieces chosen from the Four Hauora Buckets — each representing ideas noticed in the story:
Whakapapa — Family & Belonging
Mauri — Calm & Confidence
Mahi — Ideas & Creativity
Mana — Strength & Bravery
Each learner chooses a piece that represents them, contributing to a shared class artwork that becomes the whole class story.
As the dress grows, learners see how many different contributions can come together to create something meaningful.
Through creative making, discussion, spatial reasoning, pattern exploration, and collaborative design, learners engage with concepts from English, Mathematics & Statistics, and the Arts while experiencing how individual contributions become part of a larger collective creation.
The workshop concludes with the shared mantra:
Sky’s Story - My Story - Your Story - Our Story
Me + We = Power
